An invitation to apply to become a member of the Winstanley College Board of Governors.
The College’s Mission: ‘to achieve academic excellence in a supportive and challenging learning environment.’
Winstanley College has a Board of Governors that comprises staff, students, a parent member and other members drawn from difference spheres of the community who with the appropriate skills and competencies provide the College with leadership and direction. The Board is responsible for the College’s Mission, its strategic direction, financial health and for overseeing the management of the College. Governors’ work with the Senior Management Team to secure the best for the College and is students.
Winstanley College is looking to recruit individuals to join the governing body and become part of a strategic team responsible for a multi-million pound budget. This role represents both a personal development opportunity and an opportunity to influence decision making at local level as the College is well placed in its community.
Increasingly, the valuable contributions that governors make to schools and colleges is being recognised and acknowledged nationally. The launch last month of a major alliance bringing together education and employers to promote and celebrate the work of school and college governors and recent reports into school and college governance all cite the enormous contributions made by governors. Transferable skills from business to education are highly sought after and companies recognize the value of ‘corporate social responsibility’ and the benefit to them as their employees develop substantial skills in areas of team working, influencing and negotiating skills from their role as governors. The Board is looking to recruit members who are able to challenge and hold college leaders to account; acting as a corporate body taking decisions in the best interests of the institution. Individuals with a background or experience in finance, audit, business, legal, public service or educational management are especially welcome to apply.
Interested applicants will be invited into College to discuss the role in more detail. The College’s website www.winstanley.ac.uk has a governance tab which will provide you with more of an insight into the work of the governing body. There is a formal application process and a meeting with the Search committee who oversee and advise the Board on governor appointments.
